Automated Shades

Reflection Electric installs motorized automated shades across Terrebonne, Mascouche, Laval, and the Laurentians. We work with Lutron and Somfy systems — roller shades, blackout shades, and patio screens — wired and programmed for seamless control by app, voice, remote, or schedule. As CMEQ-certified master electricians, we handle both the electrical wiring and the integration with your smart home ecosystem, so every shade operates reliably from day one.
Reflection Electric installs the full range of Lutron Serena and Somfy motorized shades — roller shades for living areas, blackout shades for bedrooms and media rooms, and exterior patio screens for sun and wind protection. Every installation includes motor wiring or battery-powered setup, integration with your existing smart home platform (Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit), and programming of schedules, scenes, and automation triggers. We help you choose the right shade type, fabric, and control system based on your windows, light conditions, and daily routine.
Reflection Electric routes all shade wiring cleanly through walls and window frames — no exposed cables, no visible transformers, no afterthought installations. For hardwired shades, we run dedicated low-voltage circuits during renovation or retrofit them into existing walls with minimal disruption. Every installation includes full programming of schedules and scenes, a walkthrough of your controls, and our workmanship guarantee. Whether it's a single bedroom blackout shade or a whole-home automated window treatment system, the result is seamless, quiet, and reliable.
WHY CHOOSE REFLECTION ELECTRIC
Motorized Shades Installed by Electricians, Not Window Installers
Most window treatment companies can hang shades, but they call an electrician when it's time to wire them. We handle both — the electrical infrastructure and the shade installation — in a single, coordinated project. That means concealed wiring planned from the start, proper power connections at every window, and integration with your existing smart home system done right the first time.
As Lutron and Somfy specialists, we know these systems inside and out. Our CMEQ certification ensures every electrical connection meets Quebec code, and our experience with home automation means your shades work flawlessly with your lighting, climate, and security systems.

Everything You Need to Know
How much does home automation installation cost?
Reflection Electric's home automation projects start at $500 CAD and scale based on scope. Replacing a few switches with smart dimmers and setting up voice control sits at the lower end, while a full Control4 whole-home system with lighting, shades, climate, security, and audio integration is a larger investment. During your consultation, Reflection Electric assesses your home, discusses which devices and platforms fit your lifestyle, and provides a detailed quote covering hardware, wiring, installation, and programming.
What smart home platform should I choose — Lutron, Control4, or Alexa/Google?
Reflection Electric installs all three approaches and recommends based on your needs and budget. Lutron is the gold standard for lighting and shade control — rock-solid reliability, beautiful keypads, and seamless dimming. Control4 is best for homeowners who want centralized whole-home control of lighting, shades, climate, audio, security, and locks from one interface. Open-ecosystem setups using Alexa, Google Home, or Apple HomeKit offer the most flexibility and lowest entry cost — ideal for starting small and expanding over time. We often combine platforms, using Lutron for lighting and shades with Alexa or HomeKit as the voice layer.
Do my switches need neutral wires for smart home devices?
Most smart switches and dimmers require a neutral wire in the switch box to operate. Many older Quebec homes were wired without neutral wires at switch locations, which prevents standard smart switches from working. Reflection Electric solves this two ways: we can run neutral wires to switch boxes as part of the installation, or we can install systems like Lutron Caseta that work without neutral wires using their proprietary wireless technology. During your assessment, we check every switch location and recommend the best approach for your home's wiring.
Can you automate an existing home or only new construction?
Reflection Electric automates existing homes regularly across Terrebonne, Laval, and the Laurentians — no renovation required. Wireless smart systems like Lutron Caseta, smart thermostats, and Wi-Fi-connected devices can be installed in any home without new wiring. For more advanced installations that benefit from hardwired connections — like Control4 keypads, in-wall speakers, or wired sensors — Reflection Electric routes wiring with minimal disruption to finished walls. New construction and renovations offer the ideal opportunity to pre-wire for automation, but it's absolutely not a requirement.
What are smart home scenes and how do they work?
A scene is a single command that controls multiple devices simultaneously. Reflection Electric programs custom scenes based on how you use your home. For example, a "Good Morning" scene can open bedroom shades, raise kitchen lights to 80%, set the thermostat to 21°C, and unlock the front door — all triggered by one button, voice command, or schedule. A "Movie Night" scene can dim living room lights, lower shades, and turn off upstairs lights. We program scenes during installation and teach you how to create and modify your own.
Will smart home devices still work if my internet goes down?
It depends on the platform. Reflection Electric prioritizes systems that maintain local control during internet outages. Lutron Caseta and RadioRA operate entirely on a local network — your lights and shades work perfectly with no internet. Control4 also runs locally for core functions. Some cloud-dependent devices like certain smart plugs and voice assistants lose remote control without internet, but physical switches and local automation rules continue to work. We design your system so that essential functions — lights, shades, climate — never depend on a cloud connection.
How long does home automation installation take?
Reflection Electric typically completes a starter smart home setup — a few smart switches, a hub, and voice assistant configuration — in half a day. A whole-room Lutron lighting and shade system takes one to two days. A full Control4 whole-home installation with lighting, shades, climate, security, and audio can take three to five days depending on scope and whether new wiring is needed. During your consultation, Reflection Electric provides a specific timeline and schedules installation to minimize disruption to your household.
